<image:caption>Gemma Cribb is the leader of the Equilibrium Psychology team. She created Equilibrium Psychology in 2007 because she wanted to work with and be inspired by clients and colleagues who were eager to grow, overcome their stuck points, challenge and continuously improve themselves. Since then, the Equilibrium Psychology team has grown to be one of the largest and most highly regarded teams of Clinical Psychologists in Sydney. We love to learn from each other, have fun together, and share the wide range of expertise we have with our clients and our community. <image:caption>Therapy Dog Angel is the therapy dog at Equilibrium Psychology. She is a two year old white German Shepherd and trained as a therapy dog through Therapy Dogs NSW. Angel has a sweet calming temperament and loves nothing more than lying on her therapy couch and getting pats. She can often be seen around the office sniffing out treats and rolling on the waiting room rug. Angel was named after her GIANT ears because they looked more like wings when she was a puppy, but also because she truly is an Angel of a dog. Outside of the office Angel loves going to the park and playing fetch with her favourite squeaky balls. Lying in the shade on the dew wet grass on a warm morning (particularly when we are trying the leave the park!) is her happy place. She loves hanging with her best friend Tilly the black lab and finds nothing more relaxing than curling up on her bed with her brother Max the tabby cat. Angel is generally in the office Monday to Wednesday and you can request she comes to your session anytime, just tell your therapist and we can arrange it for your next session. You are also encouraged to let reception know if you are allergic to or don’t like dogs and we can make sure she is in her room when you attend the clinic.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Clinical Psychologist MAPS FCCLP Carmen is a warm, compassionate, and solution-oriented bilingual Clinical Psychologist (English and Romanian), dedicated to providing evidence-based, and culturally sensitive psychological interventions to individuals, couples, and families, with almost 20 years of clinical experience (in Australia since 2011) with diverse client populations in one-on-one and group settings. In Australia, she has worked with an NGO as a clinical supervisor and manager of a therapeutic team, providing counselling and family dispute resolution services, and, as a registered psychologist, in a private psychology clinic. Carmen finds the uniqueness of ones’ story highly motivating and meaningful, giving her purpose in finding efficient ways to tailor treatment plans and therapeutic interventions that support clients’ needs, and help them diffuse stressful situations, proactively resolve issues, and achieve challenging goals. She acknowledges that coming to therapy can be quite daunting and anxiety provoking for some clients. Having to talk to a stranger and share your deepest worries, fears and hopes, might feel scary but she strongly believes that these profound acts of courage (showing up and being vulnerable) are a sign of undeniable strength and could lead to one of the most uplifting experiences you have ever had. Rest assured that therapy is a safe and confidential space where she will be gently walking by your side on this magnificent journey of self-discovery. She is committed to reflective practice and continuous self-improvement, and that is why she values feedback provided at the end of each session that would help her find the best way possible to support you. She has a special interest in working with couples using therapy models such as Imago Relationship therapy, a form of relationship and couples therapy that focuses on transforming any conflict between couples into opportunities for healing and growth. Learning and teaching the “Imago Dialogue” allows couples to move from blame and reactivity, to understanding and empathy, so they can create a deeper and loving connection with each other. She uses integrative, trauma informed, evidence-based psychotherapy approaches: from therapies focused on symptom reduction such as the Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) and trauma focused such as Eye-Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing treatment (EMDR), to insight-focused psychotherapies such as systemic, experiential and narrative psychotherapy.</image:caption>

<image:title>Corporate Seminars - Finding Meaning At Work</image:title>
<image:caption>Many of us spent a third of our lives, approximately 90,000 hours at work over a lifetime. The meaning and satisfaction we find in our work can therefore make a huge impact on our quality of life. Many people believe that they have to be “saving the world” or “helping people” to find meaning in their work but in fact meaning can be found in most roles. This workshop will help your team identify their personal values, understand how their job fits with those values, the impacts their job has on the broader community and how they can maximise their sense of meaning and purpose in the work that they do.</image:caption>

<image:title>Depression-Bipolar Disorder - Manage your mood swings</image:title>
<image:caption>Bipolar Disorder or Manic Depression the name given to the experience of abnormal mood swings. It is characterised by the experience of extremely “high” moods (aka. “mania”) of euphoria or elation, and the experience of extremely “low” moods (aka “depression”) for sadness and loss of pleasure. These mood episodes can have different patterns from person to person, can range from mild to severe, don’t necessarily make sense in the context of what is going on in someone’s life and can be very disruptive and make it difficult to function in day-to-day life. Bipolar patients have commonly reported increased activity, decreased need for sleep, and elevated mood as early warning signs of mania, and depressed mood, loss of energy, loss of interest in people or activities, impaired concentration, and thoughts of death as early warning signs for depression.</image:caption>

We will often know that our obsessive fears are irrational but feel unable to control them or the anxiety they produce. Obsessions are often exaggerations of common worries including: germs, sickness, turning off electrical appliances, locking doors, driving safely, order and neatness, violence or gruesome images and sex. Compulsions often include repetitive actions performed to prevent an obsessive fear from happening or to reduce anxiety. However compulsions can also be thoughts. Common compulsions include: washing, cleaning, checking locks, stoves etc, ordering or lining things up, counting, praying and repeating actions.</image:caption>

<image:title>Anxiety-GAD - Enjoy today by not worrying about tomorrow</image:title>
<image:caption>Those of us living with Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD) experience persistent and excessive worry about a number of different things such as work and performance, health, family and finances. GAD leads to a tendency to ‘catastrophise’ (expect the worst) and we find it difficult to control our worry, to clear our head and to concentrate. We often feel tense, restless, irritable, tired, and have trouble relaxing, making decisions and sleeping. GAD is often linked to perfectionism, procrastination, muscle aches; headaches or migraines; stomach aches and bowel symptoms.</image:caption>

<image:title>Anxiety-Fears & Phobias - Conquer your fears</image:title>
<image:caption>A Phobia is an extreme, irrational fear about a situation, living creature, place or object. Those of us living with a Phobia will experience intense distress (beyond a simple fear reaction) when faced with the source of our Phobia or simply by thinking about the Phobia. Despite knowing the fear is irrational we will not be able to control our fear reaction which may include sweating, chest pain, trembling, and pins and needles. Common Phobias include: spiders, snakes, dogs, insects, dentists, injections, vomiting, blood, water, heights, storms, driving, planes, trains, bridges or tunnels and enclosed spaces, elevators, and escalators.</image:caption>

<image:title>Depression - Reconnect with your better self</image:title>
<image:caption>Depression can occur suddenly or gradually; in response to difficult life circumstances or 'out of the blue'; and can vary in severity and symptoms. Some of us may be able to do everything we usually do but feel low energy, flat or find it difficult to concentrate. Others find it difficult to get out of bed, dress, eat and take care of ourselves. Psychological therapy (with or without medication) is the only long-term effective treatment for Depression according to research. Psychological therapy will help you manage depressive thinking; engage in behaviour that is proven to lift mood; improve your interpersonal relationships; improve your sleep; help you make any changes necessary to feel good about your life; and help you feel better about yourself, more hopeful about your future and prevent a relapse of Depression.</image:caption>

<image:title>Grief & Loss - Get support to navigate your grief</image:title>
<image:caption>Grief is the emotion we feel at times of significant loss. This loss can be the death of a loved one; a relationship breakdown; a failed pregnancy; infertility; the loss of a job or role; or the loss of ability. We experience Grief as an emotional “roller coaster” which may include feelings of disbelief, anger, shock, numbness, relief, confusion, sadness, and guilt. When we are grieving we often experience sleeplessness, loss of pleasure, and loss of appetite. Although Grief is a normal process, we can get 'stuck' in Grief. Some of us get stuck through using alcohol to cope with our feelings, isolating ourselves and withdrawing or by becoming aggressive. Depression can also develop from unresolved Grief. Psychological therapy can help facilitate your grieving process; help manage your difficult emotions; reverse any unhelpful behaviours; develop any skills you may now need, and help you move forward in a positive way with your life.</image:caption>

<image:title>Trauma - Overcome the disabling effects of trauma</image:title>
<image:caption>Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a particular set of reactions that develops in those of us who have been through Trauma. Traumatic events can be singular, enduring, or repeated events including: a car or other serious accident; physical or sexual assault; war or torture; violent crime; medical emergencies; or natural disasters. Feelings of intense fear, helplessness or horror are common in response to these traumatic events. More common life experiences will cause a trauma reaction when important people or institutions betray or disillusion us in some unforeseen way. As such, the unexpected break up of a relationship, discovery of an affair, unfair dismissal, and workplace bullying can be traumatic. Psychological therapy is essential in these situations to help you manage the symptoms of trauma, to emotionally process the trauma and move ahead in a positive life direction.</image:caption>

<image:title>Relationships-Couples Therapy - Learn how to improve your relationship</image:title>
<image:caption>Our couples clinic can help address conflict, infidelity, poor communication, sexual problems and loss of love in a relationship. According to research, most couples wait on average 7 years before seeking help. However, living with relationship stress can permanently damage our relationship; lower our self esteem; and impact our mood and daily performance. Couples counselling will help you make relationship decisions and resolve ongoing conflicts by uncovering unhelpful beliefs, patterns of communication and behaviour within the relationship. Whether you ultimately decide to stay together, or agree to separate, couples therapy can help you identify and avoid repeating unhelpful patterns, contributing to better relationships in the future.</image:caption>

<image:title>EMDR - The safe and effective treatment for trauma</image:title>
<image:caption>EMDR therapy is used to treat trauma and related symptoms by reconnecting the traumatized person in a safe and measured way to the images, thoughts, emotions, and body sensations associated with the trauma. Trauma symptoms occur when negative experiences overwhelm the brain’s natural ability to heal. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation while the client is re-experiencing the trauma to help the brain heal. Successful use of EMDR results in the trauma being processed which usually means the memory is less vivid, the emotions associated with the event less intense and the meaning of the event changes.</image:caption>
